Games to help with word practise

Getting a toddler to do anything is difficult, let alone having to do hundreds of repetitions of the same word (and one they usually find difficult) every day! But making word practise into games can help. There's a list of games we've found useful here, but we want to hear what's worked for you. Let's share.

  1. We've had some success in recent days getting Sam to say his new words he's finding tricky. We put objects that represent the words into draw string bags and have him lucky dip to pull them out. So he'll pull out a stick and say I see stick or I found stick. Then he'll pull out his spiderman car and say I found spiderman car. He also likes it if I stick stickers on my nose and he closes his eyes and opens them and says I see a car sticker. The things you do!

  2. Our son, 6, is very visual and loves watching the subtitles on television/movies. We practise reading and saying the words as they come on screen. Great practise and improves his reading/literacy skills at the same time.
